Court Family Day

  • 4 Knowles Pl Canberra, ACT, 2601 Australia (map)

Have your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, or friends, ever struggled to understand exactly what you do when you go to work everyday? Has American TV skewed the understanding of what an Australian courtroom actually looks like?

To help answer these questions, WLA ACT, in cooperation with the ACT Magistrates Court, will host its second Family Day event on Saturday 4 May, where members of the ACT legal community have the opportunity to bring their kids, families and friends to see for themselves what lawyers actually do!

The doors of the ACT Magistrates Court will be opened on a Saturday morning for families to come through and take a good look. This is an exciting event for people of all ages to be able to see what a courtroom actually looks like and take up many photograph opportunities. Everyone will be able to see the court from a judge’s perspective by taking a seat behind the bench, see what the cells look like, and even try on the wigs and gowns barristers wear.

Attendees will have the benefit of hearing from both Justice Loukas-Karlsson and Associate Justice Verity McWilliam on the day.

Morning tea will be provided. Attendance for children is free, we just request you register below so we have an idea of numbers.
